Alexander Orbovich Named New Managing Director of The Playwrights Realm

The Playwrights Realm Artistic Director Katherine Kovner has announced that Alexander Orbovich has been named the company's new Managing Director.

Orbovich, who assumed the position on Monday, February 24th, takes over for Renee Blinkwolt who was recently named Managing Director of Ars Nova.

Before joining The Realm, Alexander Orbovich spent time at The Guthrie, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, New York Theatre Workshop, and Cherry Lane Theatre working on dozens of productions in a variety of capacities. Orbovich spent four years at Cherry Lane Theatre, first as the Company Manager and later as General Manager. Favorite projects from this time include Katori Hall's Hoodoo Love, Edward Albee's The American Dream and The Sandbox, the world premiere of Jailbait, and the Obie Award winning Mentor Project series. While Managing Director of Exit, Pursued by a Bear, Alexander produced seven of EPBB's signature Labs including the New York premieres of These Seven Sicknesses, The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler starring Billy Porter, and Kooman and Dimond's musical Dani Girl. His independent projects include Jeannette Bayardelle's Shida (GM) and Michael Walek's Warhol's Son (Producer). His assistant directing highlights include Shadowlandsat The Gurthrie, and the 2007 revival of Amiri Baraka's Dutchman starring Dulé Hill. Orbovich holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Artistic Director Katherine Kovner said, "I first met Alexander years ago when he was working at Cherry Lane Theatre as a Company Manager and have followed his work as Managing Director at Exit, Pursued by a Bear. I'm thrilled to announce that he is now joining The Playwrights Realm as our Managing Director. Knowledgeable and innovative thinkers, like Alexander, are exactly who we need on our team as The Realm continues to grow."
