Alan Menken Set for Concert to Benefit MA Arts Camp Scholarship Fund at Kaufman Center, 2/28

Eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken will take us on a unique musical journey through his renowned and beloved songs. This special performance will include a Q&A with the artist and will be followed by a dessert reception with desserts donated by Fairway Market and cheese donated by Murray's Cheese. Mr. Menken will be joined by three distinguished Belvoir Terrace alumnae: Deborah Grausman, Emma Rosenthal, and Nora Menken, who will each sing a Menken song, accompanied by Diane Marcus, Camp Director and Belvoir Alumna. The benefit performance will take place in the Kaufman Center's beautiful concert venue, Merkin Hall, on Thursday, February 28^th at 7pm. The money raised will go to the Edna Y. Schwartz Scholarship Fund for talented young women to attend the prestigious arts camp, nestled in the heart of the Berkshires, in Lenox, MA.

Alan Menken's stage and film musicals include Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Aladdin, Pocahontas, A Christmas Carol, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, King David, Enchanted, Sister Act, Tangled and Leap of Faith. He has won 8 Academy Awards (4 for Best Score and 4 for Best Song), with 19 nominations. He won the Tony Award for Best Score in 2012, with 3 previous Best Score nominations. His 11 Grammy Awards include winning Song of the Year for "A Whole New World". His other notable achievements include Billboard's #1 single and #1 album, induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and honorary doctorates from New York University and North Carolina School of the Arts.

Joining Mr. Menken, are three distinguished Belvoir Terrace alumnae, who will also perform: Deborah Grausman (National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof with Topol and Harvey Fierstein and Shakespeare & Company's upcoming production of Master Class), Nora Menken (A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, Twelfth Night at Schoolhouse Theater) and Emma Rosenthal (currently performing in Off-Broadway's Night Games with Marvel Repertory Theatre). Deborah and Emma will be accompanied by Diane Marcus (Camp Director and graduate of Oberlin and Juilliard) and Nora will be accompanied by her father, Mr. Menken.

Belvoir Terrace owners and directors, Nancy Goldberg and Diane Marcus, a dynamic mother-daughter team, are thrilled to be celebrating 60 years in the camping business. Nancy's mother, Edna Y. Schwartz, for whom the scholarship fund was named, started the all-girls arts camp in 1953.

All donations and ticket purchases are fully tax-deductible and will enable the Edna Y. Schwartz Scholarship Fund-a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit-to support talented young women pursuing their artistic passions at Belvoir Terrace.
