Adelaide Festival Centre Concludes 'Conversation With' Series
By: Kelsey Denette
Adelaide Festival Centre has had a hugely successful year with the new initiative In Conversation With, a series of five free forums staged throughout the year that have explored various arts topics across Australia's diverse creative cultural landscape, hosted by national arts presenter Fenella Kernebone.
The final session in the 2011 series will investigate how audiences experience music in different ways and the affect this has on music culture. The topic, Trend, Venues, Habits: the evolution of the music experience, will be discussed by a panel of industry professionals from around Australia including Zan Rowe (Presenter, Triple J Mornings), Sophia Brous (Musician and Contemporary Music Curator, Adelaide Festival), Colin Daniels (Managing Director, Inertia Music), and Daniel Randell (General Manager, MusicSA).Adelaide Festival Centre is also excited to announce that the In Conversation With series will be back in 2012, again hosted by Fenella Kernebone, to explore a range of new topics prevalent within Australia's rich cultural heritage. The 2011 series began in March by exploring the importance of children having confidence in their unique creativity, and throughout the year other topics have included building arts audiences collaboratively not competitively, the importance of Indigenous art in contemporary society, and Australian and Asian cultural engagement. In 2012, the topics will include the role of the political artist in society, everyone's a critic, and the relationship between arts and health. Adelaide Festival Centre's Associate Director and Manager of Creative Programs, Karen Bryant, says "the In Conversation With series was created to stimulate thought and debate about why and how the arts are relevant in today's society. This has definitely been evident in the often passionate discussions that have taken place. We are extremely excited to continue this initiative in 2012 and to have Fenella back on board to host these essential discussions."Host Fenella Kernebone says, "I have been very fortunate to be involved in these discussions and to be able to create dialogue between a number of different parties. Australia has such a great cultural landscape and a series such as this enables an exploration of topics not generally discussed. I can't wait to come back for 2012!"
