A star of both stage and film for decades, Jane Russell has passed away due to a respiratory illness, ABC News reports. She was 89 years old.
Before Jane Russell was a movie star, she was a star. She was discovered by Howard Hughes and publicized by Russell Birdwell and became a near legend before she was ever seen on the screen. Her first film "The Outlaw" (1950) was an instant success. She then went on to star in over 21 other motion pictures, made her nightclub debut at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, and headlined in the city several times. She starred in Broadway shows such as JANUS, SKYLARK, and COMPANY.
