A Yorkshire Fairy Tale, Play About Fairy Fraud, Begins 9/2

By:

On The Leesh Productions, Inc. presents A Yorkshire Fairie Tale by Thomas H. Diggs, Off Broadway, at the Michael Weller Theatre, 311 West 43rd Street (6th Floor).  Previews begin on Friday, September 27 and the Opening is Monday, October 1 at 8:00 pm.

A Yorkshire Fairie Tale is "a coming-of-age story about Dulcie, a thirteen-year-old girl, who fakes photographs of fairies in order to save her relationship with her mother, which has been torn apart by the First World War. With the help of Francis, an eccentric male friend, Dulcie manages to create a series of photographs that not only cheer up her mother, but also entertain a nation. Dulcie's celebrity around the faked photos goes too far as her life becomes unbearable watching her mother go 'round the bend.' Dulcie decides to stop all talk of fairies, betray her eccentric cohort, and give up her celebrity status in order to preserve what's left of her family," state press notes.

This new play is directed by Nancy Robillard (Honor and the River at Luna Stage, Fast Break at the Culture Project) with Set Design by Diana Whitten; Costume Design by Jessica Jahn and Lighting Design by Chris Conti.  The play is inspired by the Cottingley Fairy Hoax.

Thomas H. Diggs' work has been seen at East/West Players, Moving Arts, Company of Angels, Blank Theatre Company, TheatreWorks, Highways Performance Space, Utah Contemporary Theatre, and The Bailiwick Theatre. He was a Guest Artist at the Kennedy Center's 2004 and 2005 Playwrights' Intensives.
