Eugene O'Neill's last completed drama
Opens October 17th at Palm Beach Dramaworks

West Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks kicks off its 9th anniversary season with one of the greatest plays from the American drama canon, Eugene O'Neill's "A Moon for the Misbegotten" on Friday, October 17th (8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard.) Special priced preview performances are slated for October 15th & 16th (8PM) and the production will play through November 30th.

"A Moon for the Misbegotten" focuses on three characters: James Tyrone, the cunning landlord of the Hogan farm, Josie Hogan, a strong-willed woman with a ruined reputation, and Phil Hogan, Josie's hard-drinking Irish father.  Set during a long moonlit night in rural Connecticut, Tyrone and Josie, fueled by drink and lust, find companionship and solace, as they reveal to each other the grief, longing and unrequited love they've hidden from the world. What starts out as an elaborate scheme by Mr. Hogan to avoid eviction from their land, ends up being an exploration into the human spirit and power of redemption.

Dramaworks' Producing Artistic Director William Hayes will direct the production featuring Todd Allen Durkin, Kati Brazda, Peter Haig, Michael McKeever and Darryl Willis. The play will feature scenery designed by Michael Amico, costumes designed by Leslye Menshouse and lights designed by Ron Burns.

"A Moon for the Misbegotten," written between 1941-1943 was performed for the first time in Columbus, Ohio in 1947.  The play premiered on Broadway in 1957 and has been revived four times, winning multiple Tony Awards. The most recent production starring Kevin Spacey and Eve Best in 2007 came to Broadway after its run at the Old Vic Theatre in London.  

Palm Beach Dramaworks is a non-profit, professional theatre and is a member of the Theatre Communications Group, the South Florida Theatre League, Florida Professional Theatres Association, Florida Theatre Conference, and the Palm Beach County Cultural Council.

Performance times are Wednesday through Saturday at 8PM (with select Sunday performances at 7PM & Friday matinees at 3 pm) and regular matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2PM. Individual tickets are $42 for evening performances and $40 for matinees. Group rates for 20 or more, and discounted season subscriptions are also available.

The theatre is located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, at 322 Banyan Boulevard, between Dixie Highway and Olive Avenue, Florida 33401. Parking is offered across the street for a nominal fee, or in the City Garage on the corner of Olive Avenue and Banyan Boulevard ---the first hour is $1.00, but the second hour is free.
