Won't it be a great day when folks who have lived together for 20 years can accept a Tony Award, express their love for each other, then kiss each other – WITHOUT there being national news made in the process?
If I should ever win a Tony Award for the musical I'm writing, I would be able to thank my wife of 13 years and blow her a kiss and no one would have a second thought. True equality will only exist when Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Denis O'Hare and others can enjoy that same luxury.
All right, I accept my humiliation. I was woefully wrong on many counts. Gypsy got nuthin', even though I was convinced that cynical forces would see to it that Bernadette Peters would win to give the show a needed boost. But, apparently, Bernie did that herself during the awards show with a kick-butt rendition of "Rose's Turn." That'll learn me to make picks.
The Sondheim/Lapine DVD of the 1994 Tony Musical of the year, "Passion" hits the streets today (June 10.) Thanks to all who took the time to answer the online question, "Who played the part of Clara." Of course, it was Marin Mazzie! Kanova Johnson was one of the folks with the correct answer, so Kanova wins the DVD!
