A CAVALIER FOR MILADY Transfers to Jermyn Street Theatre
We are pleased to announce the transfer to Jermyn Street Theatre of the second World Premiere in The c*ckTavern Theatre's Tennessee Williams 100th Birthday celebration season, A CAVALIER FOR MILADY (directed by Gene David Kirk).
This news comes following the closure of The c*ckTavern Theatre last week, and the announcement that A CAVALIER FOR MILADY earned an Offwestend.com "Offies" Award nomination for Best Set Design (Cherry Truluck).
Jermyn Street Theatre's Artistic Director, Gene David Kirk, takes his acclaimed directorial debut for Good Night Out Presents to central London. Gene directed the first ever successful production of Williams' THE TWO-CHARACTER PLAY to critical acclaim (ten 4-star and one 5-star review) last October. The same production will tour the United States this year (featuring the same cast of Catherine Cusack and Paul McEwan), playing in September at the Tennessee Williams International Festival in Provincetown, then touring to Newhaven. Meanwhile in London, an autumn West-End transfer is imminent for The c*ckTavern Theatre's Tennessee Williams world premieres I NEVER GET DRESSED TILL AFTER DARK ON SUNDAYS and A CAVALIER FOR MILADY (as a double bill). So Gene will have concurrent Tennessee Williams productions on opposite sides of the world this
autumn.
A CAVALIER FOR MILADY
One of Williams' final written works (probably completed in 1979), A CAVALIER FOR MILADY is an outrageous and disturbing snapshot into the life of a young, troubled woman who spends her life dressed in children's clothes, emotionally deprived, heavily medicated and sequestered from society. While her bombastic and hedonistic mother spends her evenings revelling in flamboyant sexual trysts with male escorts, Nance plays out her sexual fantasies with the balletic apparition of Vaslav Nijinsky. A CAVALIER FOR MILADY is a final portrait of Williams' mother, sister and himself, and remains the only published yet unproduced one-act play of his oeuvre.
