AM & Shawn Lee Plays Knitting Factory Brooklyn Tonight, 8/31

What happens when you mix a Los Angeles-based pop auteur and a London-based groove-master & experimentalist? You get the sonic iconoclast known as AM & Shawn Lee. Tonight, August 31st, AM & Shawn Lee will be passing through Brooklyn to showcase their distinctly adventurous sound at the Knitting Factory.

Already having achieved success on an individual level, the two joined forces and love for all genres, including: pop, soul, funk, jazz, Brazilian tropicalia, Turkish psychedelic, and soundtracks and library music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Their collaborative album, “Celestial Electric,” was a collective effort created in their respective studio set-ups in their hometowns through email.

“It was refreshing to work this way,” said AM. “When we started, Shawn shot me a drum beat and I immediately wrote “City Boy” over it. We both knew we had something pretty special, and it just took off from there.”

These two musical geniuses garnered much attention when they performed the album live at SXSW in March 2011. Now Brooklyn has a chance to witness the creative chemistry that this duo has to offer.
