Amalgamate Dance Company (ADC) is not your typical dance company. Moving beyond concert dance as a beautiful art form to watch to dance for a purpose, ADC presents "Giving Back and Moving Forward" as an artistic platform for communities to actively engage in charity work. For their annual Spring Gala, ADC has chosen to raise aphasia awareness in conjunction with The National Aphasia Association (NAA). ADC will offer two exciting programs including the premiere of a new dance work inspired by Aphasia research and a documentary of the making of the dance work.

Envisioned as an opportunity to inspire artists and social justice communities to connect across New York City, the Spring Gala also features seven guests artists/companies who have impacted ADC's seven year history including: Douglas Gillespie and Heather N. Seagraves, Ellenore Scott/ELSCO Dance, Flexicurve Dance, Hope Boykin/HopeBoykinDance, Jessica Taylor/DAMAGEDANCE, TAKE Dance/Takehiro Ueyama, The Bridge for Dance Children's Company and musical guest: West Side YMCA Kids Company.

A portion of performance ticket sales will be donated directly to the NAA. Silent Auction with Reception to follow May 4th performance.

On Friday and Saturday evening, May 3-4, audiences will experience the following at PS199:

World Premiere of a new dance work

Alana Marie Urda's choreography is motivated by her research on the topic of Aphasia. It captures the aphasic community's isolation, frustrations, and relationships on the journey to reinvent oneself. Largely inspired by Samuel Beckett's last poem "What is the Word" dedicated to Joseph Chaikin who had aphasia, Urda's work grapples with the inability to find words to express oneself. This poignant dance piece will draw audiences closer to understanding how aphasia affects humanity. This work premieres as part of The Charity Project, an initiative of Amalgamate Dance Company (ADC).?Established in 2005, ADC exists to raise awareness around significant topics and events that affect human development through authentic storytelling. ADC uses "dance for a purpose" to educate, entertain, transform, and inspire audiences. The Charity Project initiative helps audiences "experience the cause" through tailored choreography, documentaries, & knowledgeable speakers on behalf of a Charity organization. A portion of the proceeds from the performances will be donated to NAA.
