A.C.T. Hosts Summer Training Congress For Professional Actor Training

By:

The Summer Training Congress (STC)-American Conservatory Theater's summer training program for professional actors-now in its 39th season-is gearing up for its 2011 session with the application deadline fast approaching on May 27, 2011 (for the five-week intensive), and June 17, 2011 (for the two-week intensive).

A.C.T.'s award-winning conservatory provides two- and five-week intensives ideal for anyone serious about acting, with personalized instruction from A.C.T.'s faculty of working artists along with master classes taught by A.C.T. core company actors and seminars with A.C.T.'s artistic team. Undergraduate credit is available upon satisfactory completion of the STC. In its almost 40-year history, the STC has attracted a distinguished and diverse group of students, including alumni Jennifer Gray, Teri Hatcher, Don Johnson, Camryn Manheim, and Omar Metwally. The 2011 schedule includes a five-week intensive focusing on core skills (including classes in acting, speech and voice, text, movement, improvisation, and audition technique-culminating in a performance project in Hastings Studio Theater) and a two-week intensive focusing on classical acting (including classes in acting, speech and voice-with a focus on the challenges of speaking verse-movement, and text, as well as monologue, sonnet, and scene work). Students also get access to A.C.T.'s extensive on-site script and theater reference library and may attend workshops and staged readings of new works at A.C.T., as well as Conservatory Hours-exclusive Q&A sessions with renowned actors, directors, producers, writers, and alumni. The two-week intensive runs July 15-29, 2011, with a tuition fee of $1,000; the five-week intensive runs June 7-July 15, 2011, with a tuition fee of $2,500. Students can save $500 when they take part in both intensives for the "Total Actor Package." Classes take place in A.C.T.'s spacious and modern studios at 30 Grant Avenue, San Francisco.
