Buffalo-native A.R. Gurney, who has enjoyed a fruitful career as a nationally recognized and produced playwright, has agreed to join local theatre company Road Less Traveled Productions' (RLTP's) National Advisory Board. The RLTP National Advisory Board was formed in 2009 to serve as a source of inspiration and reference for the company's artistic mission and vision. Mr. Gurney will join theatre luminaries Alec Baldwin, Eric Bogosian, Scott Ellis, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and James Rebhorn on the Board.

"Mr. Gurney is an outstanding addition to the Board and we are grateful for his willingness to support our efforts," said Scott Behrend, RLTP's Executive & Artistic Director. "His profile, locally and nationally, and close relationship to Buffalo, his hometown, make him particularly attuned to our mission." Founded in 2002 by Behrend and Literary Director Jon Elston, RLTP is dedicated to the development and production of world-premiere plays by local writers.

A.R. Gurney recently served as RLTP's fifth American Theatre Master, an honorarium which began in 2008, when Eric Bogosian visited RLTP's Road Less Traveled Theater (RLTT). On May 5th, 2012, Gurney appeared at the theatre company's 2012 Spring Gala, during the run of its production of Gurney's play, Ancestral Voices. During his visit in May, Mr. Gurney also spoke to local playwrights and theatre artists in an invitation-only, in-depth Q&A session at the RLTT, moderated by Elston. Subsequent to Bogosian and prior to Gurney, RLTP American Theatre Masters have included James Rebhorn, Edward Albee, and Stephen Adly Guirgis.

"Our National Advisory Board is a vital component of our strategically linked programming," said Behrend. Behrend cited last month's production of Ibn Shabazz's Insidious at the Black Repertory of St. Louis as an example of National Advisory Board influence. Insidious was developed in RLTP's Emanual Fried New Play Workshop in 2009, enjoyed a world-premiere production at the RLTT in 2010 (as well as a remount in 2011), and won the ArtvoiceArtie Award for Outstanding New Play in 2011.
