Three Broadway Divas Brighten Florida Sunshine Pops

Three of Broadway's brightest lights brighten the stage for "The Broadway Divas" show with Richard Hayman and the Florida Sunshine Pops. The show opens Sunday, Dec. 10 at Florida Atlantic University Center Auditorium and continues 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Dec. 11 and 13 at Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens and Dec. 12 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts. All performances are at 8 p.m.

Debbie Gravitte, Jan Horvath and Christiane Noll are young musical divas who have combined decades of stage experience. Their program will include signature songs from such Broadway hits as "Gypsy," "Mame," "Sweet Charity," "West Side Story" and "Evita," to name a few.

A Tony Award-winner for "Jerome Robbins' Broadway," Debbie Gravitte has been the soprano soloist for the past ten years for the Bravo Broadway shows and the cast CD. The mother of three children (two of them 11-year-old twins), Gravitte nevertheless manages to maintain a busy performance schedule. In 2007 she will travel to Asia with her fellow divas to perform with the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Jan Horvath was a member of the original Broadway company of "Phantom of the Opera," playing both Christine and Carlotta. She performed "Three Penny Opera" with rock star Sting, "Sweet Charity" with Debbie Allen and sang the pivotal role of Grizabella in the National Touring Company of "Cats."

Christiane Noll made her Broadway debut in "Jekyll and Hyde" and recently played the National Company of "Urinetown." She has three solo CD albums and a "Live at the Westbank Café" recording to her credit. She made her opera debut with Placido Domingo at Kennedy Center and her Carnegie Hall debut with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops in what sadly would be his last performance.

"The Three Divas made their debut a year and a half ago with Skitch Henderson, and we had the honor of playing Carnegie Hall with him," said Gravitte recently by telephone from her Connecticut home. "Skitch was a wonderful man and we will miss him, but I look forward to working again with Richard Hayman, who is a phenomenal talent."

Gravitte estimates she has performed with Hayman and the Florida Sunshine Pops five or six times, but this will be the first time with Jan Horvath and Christianne Noll.

"Since we all are divas, we each have a solo spot," Gravitte explains. "But we sing together to. It's a great show, and we look forward to returning to Florida to work with our favorite orchestra and our favorite producer, Joe Ferrer. He's a man with an enormous heart."
