PICTURE INCOMPLETE, a one man musical!
WHY????!!!!!!
Okay.....scripts- check!, score- check!, hiring musicians, creatives and crew- check!, high kick- check!, high B flat- check!, re-scheduling because of conflicts-check!, costumes, props, rehearsal studios, re-writes, graphic artists, publicist, emails, Facebook campaigns, deadlines, temper tantrums, sulking and sleep deprivation- CHECK!, CHECK! CHECK!!!
So - “WHY DO WE DO IT?” I'll tell ya' WHY. And this goes way beyond the cheers and the accolades. Did I mention that I'm the writer, star and principal producer of the show? My ego needs feeding just as much as the next guy (probably more), but it's about having that nagging voice inside: that need to tell stories and share them in the dark. I LOVE THEATRE. It's where I've made my home; on Broadway, Off-Broadway, on the road and the unemployment line. Still, it's an absolute adrenaline rush and addictive high to navigate your way through the labyrinth and choppy waters of pre-production, to find yourself standing at the end with no visible scars and a vision realized. When they show up- great! When they pay attention- Wow! When they hold their sides and laugh uncontrollably- WOW!!! When you see them engaged, genuinely touched by the original music and thoroughly entertained by something new that started as a germ of an idea in your cluttered mind- THERE AIN”T NOTHIN' BETTER!
And there's something about doing it in the greatest city in the US, amongst the most talented writers, performers and producers for the most savvy audiences, under the most ludicrous circumstances- a festival?! It's crazy, inconceivable, frightening and THE MOST FUN I'VE EVER HAD.
So, come see my “Complete foot-stomping, soul-stirring, laugh-out-loud, multi-character, one-man musical experience” about a typical New Yorker, a particularly challenging birthday and the community that surrounds him. Take the journey and let's take share that NYMF high....in the dark.
