Day 2-Next Broadway Sensation

By Jason Haft

Line Producer of NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation

It's hard to believe that NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation is still going strong as we prepare for our sixth year! Working on this competition for the past few years has been such a wonderful experience, watching so many incredible talents sing their hearts out for some of the finest members of this industry, from performers to directors to producers to casting directors to vocal coaches.
And really, it never gets old. Each year is special in it's own way. Last year, we recruited the amazing Liz Caplan (production vocal supervisor on a number of Broadway shows), who served as a mentor and permanent judge throughout the competition and generously offered one-on-one time with the winner Hannah Whitney as she prepared for her solo concert at Joe's Pub. (Yes, the prize for the winner of the competition is a solo concert at the premier NYC music spot, co-presented with Grammy-winning Sh-K-Boom Records. How awesome is that?!) While unfortunately Liz won't be joining us again this time around, we have some truly exciting twists to introduce this year, and as always, look forward to some fabulous celebrity hosts and judges each week!

This year's competition will also be new and interesting in that we've brought on a new director, Travis Greisler, who comes to us from working with Jason Moore on the Broadway-bound musical Tales of the City. He's certainly a talented one on the rise, and I truly look forward to seeing how he will support the further evolution of this great annual event.

So come on out and join us as we celebrate the wealth of young talent in NYC! This year, we return to New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) on Saturdays (September 17th, September 24th, and October 1st). Doors open at 10:30pm.

And be sure to tune in here on BroadwayWorld.com for coverage of the competition and to take part in online voting each week!
