Christine Andreas, Elena Shaddow, David Burnham, Steve Kazee, Judith Ivey and Bill Pullman are among the nominees of the 27th Annual Helen Hayes Awards, celebrating achievement in Washington, D.C.-area theatre.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Warner Theatre on April 16th.
Andreas, Shaddow and Burnham were nominated for their respective turns as Margaret, Clara and Fabrizio in the national tour of The Light in the Piazza, while Kazee was nominated for the tour of Spamalot and Ivey and Pullman were honored for their work in The Subject Was Roses at the Kennedy Center. Other nominated performers included Nancy Lemenager for She Loves Me at Arena Stage, Trisha Jeffrey for Caroline, or Change at Studio Theatre, Veanne Cox for The Beaux Stratagem at the Shakespeare Theatre, and Brad Oscar and Walter Charles for Cabaret at Arena Stage.
Arena Stage was the most honored theatre, with 27 nominations. Its production of te classic Kander and Ebb musical Cabaret led the list of nominated productions, with 10 nods. Other theatres to receive multiple nominations included the Shakespeare Theatre (with 21 nominations), the Folger Theatre and the Kennedy Center (both with 11 nominations), as well as Signature Theatre, Studio Theatre, Synetic Theater and the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, among others.
