The Kennedy Center's Partners in Education team of Broward County Cultural Division, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and the School Board of Broward County, FL. present the eighth annual conference on arts integration- 21st Century Arts: Learning in New Ways, on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. The conference will be held at Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Ave in Fort Lauderdale, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and will include a series of welcome and keynote speakers, followed by separate breakout sessions for School Board of Broward County Arts Teachers, and one from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. for Independent Teaching Artists. 

The workshop for Independent Teaching Artists, Laying a Foundation for and Defining Arts Integration is a professional development segment that will focus on the use of arts instruction as a tool to enhance students' educational experience in core curriculum subjects. Presented by Stuart Stotts, keynote speaker, author, storyteller, songwriter, and educational troubadour, the workshop aims to establish a shared understanding of arts integration and its key characteristics, and examine how arts integration instruction aligns with current learning principals. It will include a two hour segment providing an example lesson, with discussion and reflection activities.  

The workshop is highly interactive, technically geared and intended to create a heightened understanding of the power of the arts to facilitate learning in all academic areas.

Since 1986 Stuart Stotts has presented for schools, conferences, community events and educational trainings throughout the United States, and beyond. He is a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, and the author of four books and more than ten recordings. Frequently a featured presenter at Early Childhood conferences, Stotts leads workshops on music, literacy, and arts integration, focusing on making connections to brain-based research and the importance of community and relationships in student learning.
