21 South Loop Restaurants Bridge Economic Recovery 6/3

The Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance, (PDNA) an important South Loop Community Organization, will host the South Loop's largest and most fashionable wine and food extravaganza, the Toast of the South Loop, on Friday, June 3 at the Landmark Glessner House. The 2011 Toast will spotlight twenty one (21) area restaurants. "We are very pleased to have such an amazing collection of eateries featured at this year's annual Toast of the South Loop," said Tina Feldstein, President of the PDNA. "This type of event fits in perfectly with our organization's purpose of building a dynamic relationship between local businesses and area residents and we further believe, the success of this event will send a strong message of hope and economic recovery to our community." added Feldstein.

WHEN: Friday, June 3, 2011 - 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

WHAT: This year marks the 4th annual Toast of the South Loop held in the Historic Prairie District. Throughout the tasting, guests will have the opportunity to hop from country to country sampling wine, beer and food from many South Loop eateries along the way. Participating restaurants and shops will each prepare their favorite recipe featuring cuisine for attendees to enjoy with a paired wine or beer. This self-guided event allows attendees to choose their course, enjoying South Loop delights at their own pace.

FEATURING: The Toast will feature a live Jazz trio and a live Performance Artist to entertain attendees. During the two hour event, Tours will also be given of the Landmark Glessner House Museum so attendees can learn more about the architecturally significant 19th century home located in the Historic Prairie Avenue District.

Additionally, guest of the Toast will receive special discount coupons and valuable savings certificates provided by many of our participating restaurants : Argus Brewery, Binny's Beverage Depot, Cafe Society, Chi Bakery & Cafe, Flavor 180, Jimmy Green's, Kitty O'Sheas, Kroll's South Loop, La Cantina Grill, Mangia Fresca, Moon Palace, Opart Thai House, Panozzo's Italian Market, Pizzeria Brandi, Reggie's, Scoops, Tapas Valencia, The Chicago Firehouse, Triad Sushi Lounge, Weather Mark Tavern, Zapatista. "Most people acknowledge the South Loop has been hit pretty hard in this economic recession, so we are very encouraged by the generosity and commitment from our area restaurants." said Gail Dempsey, PDNA board member.

WHERE: The Landmark Glessner House Museum, located at 1800 South Prairie Avenue in the heart of Chicago's Prairie Avenue Historic District. Once called "the sunny street that held the sifted few," Prairie Avenue was home to several of Chicago's most important historical figures, including George Pullman, Philip Armour and Marshall Field. These and other residents influenced the evolution of the city and played prominent national and international roles. Today Prairie Avenue is thriving once again as a vibrant and diversified residential neighborhood.

COST: $30 - Tickets to the Toast of the South Loop SOLD OUT in 48 hours. Over 350 residents and neighbors will be participating from: Bronezville, Central Station & Museum Park, Dearborn Park, Motor Row District, Prairie District, Printers Row and the South Michigan Avenue & Wabash Corridors. "It was amazing to see so many South Loop and Near South Side residents jump at the opportunity to attend the Toast," said Jeff Ayersman, PDNA Board Member. "This event has never SOLD OUT faster," he added.

The Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance is a community organization whose mission is to build a sense of community and to promote The Common good and social welfare for the Near South and South Loop area in Chicago. Also, to preserve the integrity of the neighborhood's historic character and educate the public about its history. Further, to address issues of the neighborhood and provide it with an effective and transparent communication link with city municipal and government officials, developers, businesses and other influential groups, and to empower the community to work together in improving the neighborhood with the objective of fostering a collective, respectful and unified voice that translates into a powerful and influential force for improving and maintaining the community.
