2011 Theatre Aspen Season Tix Go On Sale Today

Theatre Aspen announces that tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale April 15th, 2011. Theatre Aspen enters its 28th season with an award-winning array of musicals and comedies in the brand new Hurst Theatre, in Rio Grande Park. Season and Preview Passes will be offered, along with special discounts for local residents. Passes must be purchased by June30th, from the Wheeler Box Office, or aspenshowtix.com, and local's discounts are available through June 1.

The theatre's 28th repertory season features multiple Tony- and Emmy-nominee Sandy Duncan, who stars in the regional premiere of Becky's New Car, by native Coloradan Steven Dietz. Next is the beloved musical Annie, by Thomas Meehan (book), Charles Strouse (music) and Martin Charnin (lyric) and the new musical Vices: A Love Story, (story by Michael Heitzman & Ilene Reid, and music and lyrics by Susan Draus, Everett Bradley, Michael Heitzman and Ilene Reid).

Becky's New Car opens June 24th and will be directed by Drama League Fellow Kate Powers. Annie, the biggest production ever staged at Theatre Aspen, opens July 7th and will feature Nina Gabianelli as Miss Hannigan and Julia Foran as Annie, along with the orphans played by Sophie Schlosser, Karlie Nelson, Kaia Vresilovic, Talitha Jones and Tatum Shane. Marjorie Mae Treger directs and choreographs, with musical direction by David Dyer. Finally, Vices: A Love Story opens July 28th. The Theatre Aspen production will be directed by Amanda Dehnert and choreography is by Andrew Palermo. Musical direction is by Susan Draus.

The new Hurst Theatre will become the centerpiece of a joint effort by Theatre Aspen and the City of Aspen Parks Department. Local builder John Silich, of Silich Construction, and a team from Charles Cunniffe Architects, led by Charles Cunniffe, have been working pro bono to create Theatre Aspen's new venue. The City Council approved the first phase of work to be done by the Parks Department, which will also address storm water drainage issues. Work on the current plans is underway, and will continue into the fall, and plans include water features and other aesthetic enhancements to Rio Grande Park.

Theatre Aspen was awarded the "Outstanding Regional Theatre" Henry Award in 2009 and Alison Luff won a Best Supporting Actress Denver Post Ovation Award for her work in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
