2010-2011 Huntington 35 Below Wrap Parties Announced

Huntington Theatre Company continues its series of "35 Below" Wrap Parties this fall with "Heartache Over Easy" on Friday, September 17 following the performance of William Inge's classic American comedy Bus Stop and "Home for the F*!@ing Holidays" on Friday, November 12 following the performance of Bob Glaudini's searing and funny world premiere Vengeance is the Lord's. "It's Not Tragic 'til it's Funny" will occur Friday, April 1 following the first performance of the world premiere Sons of the Prophet by Stephen Karam (huntingtontheatre.org/prophet), and "Get Bro-manced" will follow the Friday, May 20 performance of Comedy of Errors (huntingtontheatre.org/propeller).

The post-show parties for the region's culturally curious young adults aged 21 to 35 include complimentary food and beverages, live music, and exclusive backstage access to each production's cast, and creative team, and Huntington staff. Party admission is free with the purchase of a ticket to the preceding select performance.

The "35 Below" Wrap Parties held last spring were great successes - approximately 150 attended "Leave with the Wrong Girl," held in conjunction with Becky Shaw, and 80 attended "One Kiss Changes Everything," held after a performance of Prelude to a Kiss.

"The social aspect of attending the theatre is half the reason to get off the couch," says Huntington Associate Producer and 35 Below Committee Chair Bevin O'Gara. "Our 35 Below events offer the best entertainment and the most bang for your buck. The Huntington is all about providing our audience with a complete experience, and when guests of our wrap parties get to see a great show and attend a great party with members of the cast and fellow theatre-lovers, we do just that."

"35 Below" is the Huntington Theatre Company's ongoing program providing $25 tickets to performances of all Huntington productions for those aged 35 and under.

The 2010-2011 season kick-off event, "Heartache Over Easy," will be held Friday, September 17 following the first performance of William Inge's classic American comedy Bus Stop. The event will feature local indie/rock band Mean Creek, recently voted "Boston's Best Act" in the 2010 Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll, an open bar, and delectable snacks from food sponsor Symphony 8.

Bus Stop is directed by former Huntington Artistic Director Nicholas Martin. In this classic American comedy by renowned playwright William Inge (Picnic, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs), a snowstorm strands a bus outside of Kansas City, and its passengers are forced to seek shelter in a roadside diner. Their night together is filled with bluster, heartache, laughter, and the search for love in this honest and surprisingly modern American comedy. The play was adapted into a film starring Marilyn Monroe. The Wall Street Journal calls Inge "one of this country's half-dozen greatest playwrights," and The New York Times calls Bus Stop, "rich, funny, and fresh." Bus Stop plays at the B.U. The second event, "Home for the F*!@ing Holidays," will be on Friday, November 12, following the first performance of the world premiere of Bob Glaudini's Vengeance is the Lord's. The event will feature Gene Dante, second place winner in WBCN's 2009 Rock 'n Roll Rumble, an open bar, and food from food sponsor Symphony 8.

Huntington Artistic Director DuBois helms Vengeance is the Lord's, a searing and funny new drama. A mother's call for mercy clashes with a father's need for retribution when their daughter's murderer comes up for parole. Bob Glaudini (Jack Goes Boating, A View from 151st Street) asks the ancient moral question: what can we do when "justice" isn't enough? East Bay Express says "Glaudini has an incredible ear for dialogue and a good sense of how modern people interact with one another." This marks the third collaboration between DuBois and Glaudini. A film version of their earlier Jack Goes Boating starring and directed by Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman will be released this fall. Vengeance is the Lord's plays at the B.U.
