2005 Greater Baltimore Theater Award Nominees Announced

By:

The 2005 Greater Baltimore Theater Award nominees have been announced, and reflect the wide range of theatre available in this area. Eight nominees each in four categories were named, with 3 eventual winners to be named later, and five nominees each for Outstanding Scenic Design and Outstanding Costume Design, with one eventual winner to be named later. One winner in a field of three nominees in the Outstanding Experimental Production category will also be named.

Everyman Theatre leads the nominations with 13, including 2 in the Outstanding Play category: Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune and Yellowman. Both productions also garnered the most nominations, with 5 each. Rep Stage, another Play nominees for Kimberly Akimbo, co-produced double nominee The Children's Hour with Everyman Theatre. Toby's Dinner Theatre produced the most nominated musical, AIDA, with 3, including Outstanding Play.

The Greater Baltimore Theater Awards were created by local theatre patrons in an effort to recognize the work of local companies, their actors, directors and designers. Eligible productions must be performed in Baltimore City or the immediately surrounding counties, and have casts that are made up of at least 50% residents of Maryland. All year, nominations are submitted by Baltimore theatregoers at the GBTA website. A panel of judges then attends each nominted show and creates a list of nominees.

More information about the awards, including a complete list of 2005 nominees, can be found at www.baltimoretheater.org. Congratulations to all of the nominees!
