Seattle Shakespeare Company to Present THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, Beginning 4/25

By:

Seattle Shakespeare Company will present a revival of its popular trailer park The Taming of the Shrew at The Playhouse at Seattle Center, April 25 through May 12, 2013. Many of the cast members from the original production will reprise their roles including Kelly Kitchens as Kate and David Quicksall as Petruchio. Directed by Aimée Bruneau, the production will also serve as a launch to the 20th Anniversary celebration of Wooden O in the summer of 2013.

"We delayed announcing final dates for The Taming of the Shrew in order to secure the venue we thought would be the best fit for the production," said Managing Director John Bradshaw. Seattle Shakespeare Company has been working with both Seattle Center and Cornish College of the Arts while they finalize their agreement for the new lease holder on The Playhouse building.

In Seattle Shakespeare Company's production of The Taming of the Shrew, the tempestuous and sharp-tongued Kate was brought up in a rough and forgotten corner of backwoods America and lives in the Padua trailer park with her Mother and sister. Petrucchio swaggers in to town with a plan to steal Kate's guarded heart. Through bickering and brawling, their comic courtship is a no-holds-barrEd Battle of the sexes that results in a love and understanding that neither one imagined.

Cast members from the original 2009 production in the parks that will return for the 2013 indoor production of The Taming of the Shrew include: Keith Dahlgren (Gremio/Walter), Karen Jo Fairbrook (Mama Baptista Minola), David Gassner (Pedant/Soldier/Joseph/Priest), Bill Higham (Vincentio/Curtis), David S. Hogan (Grumio), Kelly Kitchens (Kate), Samara Lerman (Tranio), David Quicksall (Petruchio), Brian Claudio Smith (Lucentio), and John Ulman (Hortensio). Newcomers joining the show are Brenda Joyner (Bianca), Pilar O'Connell (Widow/Phyllis), and Brandon Ryan (Biondello).

Tickets to The Taming of the Shrew are now on sale and can be purchased in person at the box office, by phone at 206-733-8222 or online at www.seattleshakespeare.org.
